Re: Ye Olde Gigatron and Gigatronski
I couldn't get it to work. The clock signal looked very bad on the oscilloscope. For Ye Olde Gigatron, it would be nice to use a 7404/74LS04. I even have a 74H04. But that's for when I find the time. I don't know what changed, but suddenly the system is a lot more stable. I had it running with Mande...

Re: Ye Olde Gigatron and Gigatronski
Since I gave a talk about the Gigatron at Neuron hackerspace in Moscow, I wanted to make a Gigatron with old Soviet chips. Unfortunately, I did not get any from my new Russian friends :-) By the way, Pavel and others of Neuron Hackspace have a wonderful "Flipper Zero" kickstarter project. ...

Re: Ye Olde Gigatron and Gigatronski
Thanks. I found some on ePay. I got a CET (Chino-Excel Technology) CE4069UB from 1987 and a modern NXP HEF4069UBP. Neither works.. The scope shows that it is oscillating, but the output voltage is very low. The propagation delay of these is about the same as the 74C04 according to the specification,...

Fixed the permissions of Vyvvyan, also fixed norgate's permissions.
Older users apparently are missing some options.

Ye Olde Gigatron and Gigatronski
Hi all, The Gigatron was designed to run with old TTL chips. The kits were supplied with modern, CMOS type chips, but the goal was to keep it TTL compatible. Marcel had already started sourcing some old TTL components, most notably an old 70ns SRAM. I've taken over that task, which has led to the cr...

Re: Issue with building my own Pluppy McPlugface
More info on compatibility: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS/2_port#Conversion_between_PS/2_and_USB So you can use: - USB keyboard that also supports PS/2 (probable pre-2010) with any USB-PS/2 converter - USB keyboard that does not support PS/2 in combination with an active converter (post-2010) Pas...

Re: Issue with building my own Pluppy McPlugface
Thanks for your debugging work! Good to hear everything is now working fine. For some earlier kits, the cable is not the best quality. All the later kits have 28 AWG USB cables that work perfectly (either white or black). USB keyboard *should* support PS/2, but not all work according to specificatio...

Re: microtron
The RAM based ALU gives me mixed feelings. From the perspective of making a computer that they might have had in the late 70's, they would think you insane for using expensive ram to do math by LUT. On the other hand, once again. so much potential for interesting hacking. In 1K we have 4 LUT tables...

Re: microtron
Hi Steve, You have interesting thoughts, and it is nice to see them presented in such a concise way. I'm proud that the Gigatron has inspired you, in the same way designs before the Gigatron inspired us. I like how you have taken the design goals of the Gigatron and applied them, again, to the Gigat...

In de design phase, I believe you see some red stuff. But the 4L boards he made were green:
